SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 071-11
RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 13 (35) RULE X OF THE
WHEREAS, the Committee on Games, Amusement and Sports during the 8th until the 10th Congress forms part of the regular standing committees of the Senate as two separate committees, namely, the Committee on Games and Amusement and the Committee on Youth and Sports Development;
WHEREAS, there has been a growing concern over matters and issues pertaining to both amateur sports and professional sports that should be taken independently to give full attention towards the upliftment of both sectors;
WHEREAS, with the dismal harvest of nine (9) medals in the Olympic Games since we started competing in 1928 an average rank of 14th to 18th place in the Asian Games since 1951, and a measly 4th position in the Southeast Asian Games being competed by ten (10) nations since 1977 it is high time for the Senate to provide its serious legislative attention to amateur sports affairs by creating an independent committee to drastically improve and leapfrog the stature of our athletes to become world-class; AHEDaI
WHEREAS, aspects pertaining to professional sports and amusement affairs of the committee cover wide array and very significant areas of jurisdiction that deserve to be treated with distinct attention as a stand-alone committee: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, To amend Section 13 (35) Rule X of the
"SEC. 13. After the organization of the Senate in the manner provided in Rule IX, the following permanent committees shall be formed, with the duties, powers and general jurisdiction specified hereunder:

35) Committee on Games and Amusement Nine (9) members. All matters relating to games and amusement, such as lotteries, jai-alai, horse-racing, dog-racing, wrestling, boxing, basketball and all other professional sports. HIACEa
