RATIONALIZING THE PHILIPPINE INSTITUTE OF VOLCANOLOGY AND SEISMOLOGY

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROLANDO G. ANDAYA, JR., Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management, by authority of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, and by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby approve the

SECTION 1. Rationalization. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, hereinafter referred to as the PHIVOLCS, is hereby rationalized, functionally and structurally, in accordance with the provisions of

SECTION 2. Functional Shifts. The PHIVOLCS shall continue to undertake activities on raising public awareness regarding volcanic, seismic and other related geotectonic hazards, in accordance with its mission of ensuring safe and well-prepared communities against such phenomena. Said thrust would maintain the agency's niche as the main scientific advisory agency for earthquake-and volcano-related disaster risk management.

SECTION 3. Structural Shifts. A modification in the nomenclature of the following divisions is hereby authorized:

Volcano Monitoring Eruption Prediction Division to Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division; DcCITS

Geology Geophysics, Research and Development Division to Geology and Geophysics Research and Development Division; and

Seismological Observation Earthquake Prediction Division to Seismological Observation and Earthquake Prediction Division.

SECTION 4. Staffing Shifts. The rationalized staffing pattern of the PHIVOLCS consisting of 237 positions shall be effected.
