SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 075-15

RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE FULL SUPPORT AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE SENATE OF THE PHILIPPINES IN THE OBSERVANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

WHEREAS, March 8th of each year marks the International Women's Day that celebrates the achievements of women and recognizes the struggles women undertake and endure to achieve equal rights and opportunities;

WHEREAS, the first recorded observance of Women's Day was held in February 28, 1909, in New York where the Socialist Party of America organized the said event in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union;

WHEREAS, 49.6% of the world's population, or over 3,500,000,000, in the world today are women who play a very critical role in the political, social and economic scene, and in advancing the growth of various economies;

WHEREAS, the Senate of the Philippines honors and salutes the women of the Philippines and of the world, from present day and from history's pages, and all those who fought that women are assured equality and basic human rights;

WHEREAS, the Senate of the Philippines asserts its commitment to ending discrimination and violence against women, and ensuring the interests and welfare of women are upheld: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, That the Senate of the Philippines express its full support and active participation in the observance of the International Women's Day.
